Five Hotels to Freak you Out
Where to stay is considered a major detail during a trip. For backpackers, a clean and comfortable place to sleep in with shared toilet and bath would normally do. Those who are looking for an extra level of comfort book a five-star with complete amenities. A few travelers, however, look for weird accommodation that makes a night’s stay an adventure in itself. In some countries, these buildings with mind-boggling designs are even considered as tourist sites in themselves. We scour the globe for bizarre hotels and is freaked out by these five:
Acasa la Dracula “House of Dracula,” Brasov, Romania

Hearing the hotel’s name may already send shivers down your spine and make you flee for your life, but don’t go running just yet or else you’ll miss the thrill. There may not be blood-suckers in this hotel but it sure adheres to its concept. Upon entering you will be offered to take a sip from a cup of blood by Dracula. Moving in, freak out for you will be sleeping on a medieval four poster bed, surrounded by velvet and mesh drapes, and candelabras. Past the guestroom is a torture room complete with a wooden guillotine machine and a bed with chains.
Hobbit Motel, Woodlyn Park, New Zealand
These cute cottages in the heart of Woodlyn Park are guaranteed to give you the Frodo Baggins feel. Try being a hobbit without losing your height. Each room features the round doors and windows as the ones in the movies. The beds are specially designed to make summers cooler and cruel winters warmer. The dining tables and chairs are carpentered adding more lore-like touch to the theme.
Dog Bark Park Inn, Cottonwood, Idaho
Literally a dog in structure, this bed and breakfast lodge has the head, body, limbs, and tail of a beagle. The entrance in the stomach of “Sweet Willy,” the 12-foot-tall hotel, will usher you into rooms fully-decorated with dog-shaped carvings. You can also choose the loft room in the dog’s head. Look through the puppy dog eyes and experience a grand view of the prairie outside. But the best part in this inn is the homemade granola that is served during breakfast.
Ice Hotel, Jukkasjärvi, Sweden
What started as a small igloo grew into a fairy-tale establishment with a very unique concept. This hotel definitely lived up to its name. Just like the ice queen’s palace, its floors, walls, and ceilings are made of ice. You can slip into an ice bed or play around with the frozen side tables, the figurines, down to the very last detail, everything can make you shiver.

Hang Nga Guest House, Dalat, Vietnam
Also known as “the crazy house,” this hotel is sure to drive you nuts. The architecture is so unique it is like being warped into a surreal painting. For some people its outside looks like a twisted tree covered with dried up lava, but to others it is like a giant ghostly apparition with many eyes. The weirdness doesn’t stop there as the rooms and passageways in this place are all twists and turns. Oddly shaped tables and chairs and animal figures stare at you with their blood-red eyes. A total defiance of architectural rules, tea here is served inside the stomach of a giant giraffe.
