Japan's colorful history is characterized by numerous periods and eras where most important elements of the country's culture flourished. The most popular among the periods are the Azuchi-Momoyama Period that ran from 1568-1600. Within this period, Oda Nobunaga and his general, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, was able to unify the then divided Japan. This was followed by the semi-modern period or the Tokugawa Era. During this time, Japan's culture flourished becoming the basis of the modern day Japan.
