Jim Thompson's House

/ Asia / Thailand / Bangkok / Historical Spots / Jim Thompson's House

Jim Thompson is an American entrepreneur that lived in Bangkok, Thailand. He played an important role in introducing the silk products of Thailand to the international market. Upon seeing the silk woven by Muslims, he decided to hire them and export these products to the rest of the world. Today, the Jim Thompson House is a memorial to his contributions to the Thai silk industry.

Ever since he disappeared in 1967, the Jim Thompson House has seen little change over the years. It is the most celebrated social center in all of Bangkok which shows just how important his contributions were in the industry. His Thai house continues to be a popular tourist destination where they can learn about the industry's history and how Jim Thompson helped in shaping that.
