Gili Islands Information

Travelers looking for a remote island experience may find Gili Islands a perfect match. Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air are Lombok region's "Triumvirate of Exclusivity" for offering limited huts, a restaurant, and a solitary diving and snorkeling opportunity for travelers escaping the jam-packed tourism circuit. The islands started out as a backpacker trail with its thatched huts and beachside cafés playing reggae music and offering banana pancakes. Nowadays, exquisite seafood banquets and stone villas have also popped up to cater to travelers from the higher end of the scale.

A self-professed "eco destination," Gili Islands denounces traffic jams and automobiles. Instead, people here go on a leisurely ride on bicycles and cidomos or traditional horse-drawn carts. Most tourists go to the Islands to dive and snorkel alongside its plethora of fish and coral formations, but there are also some who await the high tide for a good surf, and those who count down to party.
