Once named as the "Land of War," Jaffna at some point in its history resembled a "ghost town" due to the curfew imposed on the city. Today, Jaffna streets resemble those of Havana in Cuba with Volkswagen Beetles and Morris Minors crawling with bicycle that are, other than the ruins of the civil war, are remnants of a fuel-starved war era. Even after 20 years of civil war, Jaffna wasn't dolled up despite of the need of a total facelift. The ruins are still untouched amid the many structures that dot the whole town.
