And who would've guessed that some of the ultimate Western treats can be found in the frigid Hokkaido region?  Furano prides itself with its Cheese Factory, which is open in weekdays.  You can view the cheeses being made, and even get to taste them!  A local special is the Squid Ink Cheese.

Just a stone's throw away is a kid's paradise, an ice cream parlor and a pizzeria.  There are also workshops around where you can get your hands dirty and try making cheese, bread, and butter, Furano-style.

Wine conoisseurs can also go to the Furano Winery, where they have been making fine wine since 1972.  The best thing about it is that entrance and wine tasting is free!  You can also try a more virgin drink of grape juice in the nearby factory.  Admission is also free.
