/ Asia / Singapore / Temples / Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple

The Kampong Kapor village was one of the earliest localities that the Tamils settled in. By 1935, the Tamils built a shrine dedicated toVeeramakaliamman. She is considered to be a very powerful goddess who protects those who worship her and destroys evil spirits. Today, this shrine has evolved over the years to become the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. Renovations and additions continued throughout the years particularly in 1953 and in 1987. Today, the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple is not only a temple of worship for Hindus in Singapore, but it has also become a sort of meeting place for Hindu tourists.
