/ Asia / Singapore / Parks / Fort Canning Park

Fort Canning Park is located atop the Fort Canning Hill. This small hill which rises 60 meters above the ground has a long and rich history. Before Stamford Raffles came into the island, the locals believed this to be the place where ancestral kings built their palaces. This was also the spot where Raffles built his first residence on the island. By the time of the Second World War, the British Army used the fortress located on the hill as their headquarters. Today, this has been converted into the Fort Canning Park where visitors can enjoy and learn about the history of the city-state. Among the many interesting spots is the Fort Canning Tunnel, the Battle Box which was the headquarters of the British command in the Pacific, cannons and even archeological excavation sites.
