The unassuming village of Bodhnath is considered to be one of the holiest places in Nepal, drawing thousands of pilgrims from all over the world, especially the Tibetan Buddhists. Its claim to fame is the Ja Rung Kashol Chorten Chenpo, more popularly known as the Bodhnath stupa - one of the largest of its kind on the planet. In fact, it has once been featured in the setting of the movie "The Little Buddha" in 1994. Believed to have been around for more than 1200 years, the history behind its construction has been shrouded in mystery and legend from its inception. One thing is certain, however: that it was built to house a holy relic from the great Buddha - a bone, to be exact - as all stupas are.
