/ Asia / Thailand / Bangkok / Temples / Wat Benchamabophit

Also known as the Marble Temple, the Wat Benchamabophit has gained the reputation as being one of Bangkok's most beautiful temples. It was constructed in 1899 by King Chulalongkorn during his stay. The name of the temple is literally translated to the Temple of the Fifth King located nearby Dusit Palace.

The Wat Benchamabophit was designed by King Chulalongkorn's half brother, Prince Naris. The marble that was used for the temple was even imported from Italy.

Today, the ashes of King Chulalongkorn rests under the Sukhothai style Buddha statue inside the Ordination Hall. Visitors will also find the Benchamabophit National Museum here. Today, the temple is under consideration to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
