Upon arrival to Bangkok (midnight time) I met some backpackers that took a room in a near by hotel because they were affraid to get to to the Khaosan late.

There shouldn't be any problem arriving there at any hour, the taxi drivers from the airport are pretty honest (except for the occasional tip they might ask) and accomodation in the Khaosan is abundant, don't hessitate and take a taxi there whenever...
