The Ciyou Temple found in Taipei is considered as the driving factor of Songshan district's development. It was built in the 18th century and its construction is based on a legend.

The story goes as a monk was going around the area and he was carrying with him the image of Mazu, the goddess of the sea as he begged for money until he was seen by a group of Mazu followers. Together, they planned and raised funds to build a temple in honor of the goddess which is now the Ciyou Temple.

Construction of the temple was finished in 1757. The temple roof is now ornamented with various figures and sculptures which include a flying dragon. Inside, the central altar is for Mazu while at its right stands an altar dedicated to the god of earth.
