Plaza de Roma

Plaza de Roma was formerly known as Plaza de Armas. It was a former bullfighting ring and its name changed to Plaza Mayor when it was converted into a garden. During the American occupation, its name was again changed to Plaza McKinley. The current name came to be when Rufino Santos became the first Filipino cardinal. In the center of Plaza de Roma is a statue in honor of King Carlos IV. He sent a vaccine for small pox to the Philippines which helped save thousands of lives.
