Intramuros

Intramuros means within the walls, and it literally is a walled city. It is surrounded by high, thick walls which served as protection for those inside against any external threat. During the Second World War, Intramuros was left in ruins due tointense battles. Fortunately, restoration efforts have been successful and today, Intramuros stands proud once again. It has been modernized to give visitors a feel of its former self and at the same time, offer modern establishments. This is a historical site where tourists can learn about the long history of Manila and of the Philippines.
