/ Middle East / Israel / Akko / Sights / Shrine of the Baha'u'llah

The Shrine of the Baha'u'llah is dedicated to Mirza Husayn 'Ali Nuri who was the founder of the Baha'i religion; this is also where he now rests in peace. He spent most of his time in solitary confinement in order to write down the teachings of this faith. Every year, Baha'i devotees flock to this area in order to pay homage to the shrine. It is considered as the holiest place for Bahais from all over the world.

Aside from being a beautiful monument, the Shrine of the Baha'u'llah is also surrounded by beautiful gardens. Although the gardens are not regularly tended to by professional gardeners, hundreds of volunteers come here to do that as well as to guard the Shrine of the Baha'u'llah. This is considered as holy work for Baha'i devotees.
