Yamoussoukro Mosque

/ Africa / Côte d'Ivoire / Yamoussoukro / Mosques / Yamoussoukro Mosque

The Yamoussoukro Mosque is the only place of worship for Muslims in the city. The mosque was built by the country's first president, Félix Houphouët-Boigny using public funds, much like most of his projects in the city. Rumors have been going around that the president had this built in order to appease the Muslim community, which is about 20% of the whole population, due to the huge amounts spent on the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace.
