For history and architecture buffs, you might want to visit Burkina Faso’s Ruins of Loropeni, which is among the latest to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site (2009). It’s also the country’s first World Heritage Site. The ruins are categorized as a “new natural wonder of the world” for its 1,000-year-old fortresses that used to be a gold trade hub during the heydays of the Silk Road. Unfortunately, Burkina Faso’s tourism department does not have a website or contact numbers posted on the Internet. Hence, to know more about the ruins or how to visit it, you may get in touch with Burkina Faso’s consulate in your country.
