New on World Heritage list: The Ruins of Loropeni

For history and architecture buffs, you might want to visit Burkina Faso’s Ruins of Loropeni, which is among the latest to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site (2009). It’s also the country’s first World Heritage Site. The ruins are categorized as a “new natural wonder of the world” for its 1,000-year-old fortresses that used to be a gold trade hub during the heydays of the Silk Road.
