Never tell locals that it is your first visit to Thailand. If you do, they will most likely try to take advantage and charge you with exorbitant fees, especially the taxi and tuk tuk drivers. Try to make the impression that you are a regular visitor there and can't be duped. Hopefully, you will be able to avoid some scams.
